About Pizzeria da Laura

Pizzeria da Laura is a vibrant corner pizza restaurant located at 2049 Shattuck Avenue in the heart of Berkeley, California. Nestled within a striking art deco building on bustling Shattuck Square, this establishment is more than just a place to eat; it is a community hub where pizza, pasta, and thoughtfully crafted drinks bring people together to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the good life. Founded by Chef Laura Meyer, a three-time World Pizza Champion and alumna of the renowned Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, Pizzeria da Laura reflects her deep passion for pizza and Italian culinary traditions, infused with the unique spirit of the Bay Area[1][2][7].

The menu at Pizzeria da Laura is a heartfelt tribute to the influential people in Chef Laura’s life, with each dish named in their honor. It features a diverse range of pan-style pizzas that showcase Laura’s mastery of dough fermentation and her ability to blend traditional methods with innovative flavors. Guests can choose from multiple pizza styles, including New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma style, each offering a distinct crust and texture experience. Signature pizzas like the Regina, which earned Laura her championship title, and the Ray J—a double pepperoni pie with stracciatella, fermented honey, basil, and parmigiano—are among the most popular selections. The Ray J, named after Laura’s brother, balances spicy and sweet notes with creamy burrata and fresh basil, exemplifying the thoughtful flavor combinations that define the menu[1][3][6].

Beyond pizza, Pizzeria da Laura offers house-extruded pasta dishes that evoke the warmth of family dinners, such as the Spaghetti with Dad’s Ragu, a recipe inspired by Laura’s own family traditions. The beverage program complements the food with classic cocktails crafted from unique Italian aperitifs, including the Garibaldi—a low-alcohol cocktail made with freshly squeezed citrus like grapefruit and blood orange. The wine list is curated with a focus on women-led producers, adding an inventive and inclusive touch to the dining experience[1][2].

The atmosphere at Pizzeria da Laura is as inviting as the food. The interior features a hand-painted mural by artist Carlos Sumang, blending art deco aesthetics with contemporary Bay Area influences. This artistic backdrop creates a warm, fresco-filled environment reminiscent of Italian taverns and Mediterranean calm, while honoring the architectural heritage of downtown Berkeley. The space encourages guests to feel at home, whether they are grabbing a slice from the takeout window or settling in for a meal with friends and family[1][4].

Since opening, Pizzeria da Laura has quickly become a beloved fixture in Berkeley’s culinary scene, known for its high-quality ingredients, expert craftsmanship, and welcoming hospitality. Chef Laura’s vision of creating a neighborhood pizzeria that feels like an extension of her own home has resonated deeply with locals and visitors alike. The restaurant’s commitment to community, tradition, and innovation makes it a standout destination for anyone seeking authentic, thoughtfully prepared pizza and Italian fare in a lively, artful setting[1][3][4].

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, I ate at Pizzeria Da Laura for my birthday. Let me start off by saying if you don't know about Pizzeria Da Laura, you're sleeping big time on great pizza and Italian good in general. The owner Laura, trained and worked under renowned Pizza Master Tony Gemignani. If you're from the Bay Area and don't know who Tony is, you've been asleep your entire life! Lol 😆 🤣 😂 I had high expectations for Laura's restaurant since she trained with and under Tony for years. Here's what we ordered. The Arancini which came with a red marina sauce, the Ray J New York Style Pizza 18 inch, the Grandma Style Pazzo Pizza, and the Rigatoni in Vodka cream sauce with sausage added to it. The Arancini was different compared to what I was used to. There were artichokes and a touch of lemon inside of the Arancini. It was very earthy tasting. The texture was spot on and the flavors were unique. The Ray J New York Style Pizza is some of the best pizza I've ever had. Two different types of pepperoni, fresh burrata cheese and drizzled with honey! It was such a unique and great tasting pizza. It's unlike anything I've ever had. I would highly recommend this pizza to everyone. The Pazzo

Our first time so we ordered a crazy amount of pizza just so we could try three different styles: Sicilian, Detroit and NY. All were delicious with excellent crust and texture. The good news is that the pizza also reheats really well. We will certainly be coming back. 😋

Me and the lady went here, cause of Bay Area Check Please! You know? Cause that’s what we do. The evening we went it was busy, but we had little wait for our table. The homie Fernando was cool and on top of things. It Did however take a min to get the pies. But it wasn’t a crazy long wait. About the pies we got: I got the Detroit style of what’s called The Ray J which is named after Laura’s brother. I saw her make that on an episode Localish. My lady got a New York style of a “make your own”. Both were fire. The dough on the New York style was nice and slightly chewy. And on the Detroit style, the way the cheese cooked around the edges were tasty than a mug! If you know you know. The ambiance was cool. I mean, it’s a pizza place. Music was on point. Nah’mean?!?! Check it out.

Pizzeria da Laura in Berkeley is a fantastic spot for Italian food right in the heart of downtown, just steps from the university. The location gives it a lively downtown vibe with lots of energy from the surrounding area and nearby students. The reservation and check-in process was very smooth. The staff were incredibly courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the visit. I actually arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and they were kind enough to seat us early, which was a really nice touch. One thing I really like about this place is that they update their dishes a few times a year, so every visit can feel a little different and exciting. The menu has great variety, especially when it comes to pizza styles as you can choose from New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma-style pizzas, and the pricing is very straightforward for all the sizes they serve. The pizza was perfectly cooked and tasted great. They also allow you to customize your pizza by adding or removing ingredients, which makes it very convenient for everyone to choose based on their liking. And they add toppings with open-heart. The pasta was also excellent. We ordered the Peperoncino pas

Definitely one of the Top 3 Pizza restaurants I have ever been to. The food was INCREDIBLE! The service was top notch. The historic building was beautifully transformed into the perfect space of luxury. What a great experience, and I cannot wait to return to try some more of her Pizza. My wife bought her book in hopes of miraculously recreating our perfect meal! Thank you! ❤️❤️
